Mining Industry Boiler & Pressure Vessel Inspections

Mining operations run on high-pressure systems. Boilers, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers power equipment, support ore processing, and keep sites functioning around the clock. At ABI Boiler Inspectors, we provide MSHA and OSHA compliant inspection services built for the demanding conditions found at mine sites across Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and New Mexico.

Protect Your Operation From MSHA Citations

MSHA regularly cites mines for unsafe equipment under R11‑1‑531. Pressure vessels and boilers are frequent targets of these citations because they operate under high stress and are often overlooked until a problem arises. Routine, documented inspections are your best defense.

ABI is an Authorized Inspection Agency (AIA) with MSHA certification, giving you direct access to the inspections MSHA requires, backed by nationally recognized expertise.

Code of Federal Regulations We Address

Our inspections are built around the specific CFR sections that apply to both vessel and boiler fleets:

  • 30 CFR 56.13015 / 57.13015 – Covers inspection requirements for compressed air receivers and other unfired pressure vessels (the most common equipment at mine sites). Vessels must be inspected by a National Board commissioned inspector per the National Board Inspection Code, with records kept on site for MSHA review.
  • 30 CFR 56.13030 – Safety valve requirements for compressed air and other pressure systems, applicable to vessels and boilers alike.
  • 30 CFR 77.413 – Addresses boiler inspection frequency, requiring an internal inspection at least once per year by a licensed inspector, with a signed certificate posted near the boiler.

Equipment We Inspect at Mine Sites

Mining facilities rely on a wide range of pressure-retaining equipment, and each type carries its own wear patterns and compliance requirements. ABI’s certified inspectors evaluate:

  • Blowdown Tanks
  • Pressure Vessels
  • Deaerators
  • Heat Exchangers
  • Air Tanks & Receivers
  • Condensate Tanks
  • High Temperature Water Boilers
  • Jack, Surge, & Leak Tanks
  • Thermal Fluid Heaters (Hot Oil Boilers)

Trusted Inspection Services for Mining Operations

Mining facilities operate in some of the harshest conditions in industry. Extreme temperatures, dust, vibration, and continuous use accelerate wear on boilers and pressure vessels faster than in most other sectors. ABI delivers comprehensive inspection services designed to catch risk early, confirm compliance, and extend the working life of your equipment.

With over 161 years of combined experience, our team has inspected boilers of every size, from smaller support systems to large scale industrial units exceeding 60 million BTUs. ABI Boiler Inspectors works with mining companies across Arizona and nationwide, providing dependable inspection solutions that keep operations running safely.

Comprehensive Boiler & Pressure Vessel Inspections

ABI provides a full range of inspection services built for mining applications, including:
  • Internal Inspections – Detailed evaluations of internal components to identify corrosion, scaling, cracking, or structural weaknesses.
  • External Inspections – Visual and non-invasive assessments to detect leaks, deformation, overheating, and other operational concerns.
  • Fitness-for-Service (FFS) Evaluations – Engineering-based assessments to determine whether aging or damaged equipment can safely continue operating.
  • R-Stamp Inspections – Certified inspections for repairs and alterations to ensure compliance with National Board standards.
These services are built to catch issues before they turn into costly failures, helping mining companies limit downtime and keep working conditions safe.

MSHA & OSHA Compliant, Every Inspection

Every inspection ABI performs at a mine site is carried out by inspectors holding multiple layers of certification:
  • MSHA Certified Inspectors
  • OSHA Certified Inspectors
  • NB Certified Inspectors
This layered certification means your equipment is evaluated against every standard that applies to it, not just one, so a single inspection can satisfy multiple regulatory bodies at once.

Preventing Downtime & Catastrophic Failure

Unexpected equipment failure at a mine site can lead to major production losses, safety hazards, and regulatory consequences. Boilers operate under extreme pressure and heat, which makes routine inspection essential to preventing catastrophic incidents.

ABI’s proactive approach identifies early warning signs such as corrosion, pressure irregularities, or component fatigue. Addressing these issues before they escalate helps mining companies reduce liability, improve operational efficiency, and protect their workforce, while also lowering long-term maintenance costs and extending equipment lifespan.
